THIS IS ENGLAND
This is England is a British drama film directed by Shane Meadows. The story centres on young skinheads in England in 1983. The film shows that skinhead subculture, whose 1960s roots include elements of black culture, especially ska, soul, and reggae music, became adopted by fascists, which led to divisions within the skinhead scene.
Thomas Turgoose as Shaun is the main character but Stephan Graham and Jo Hartley also act in the film as Shaun's friends. Thomas Turgoose has also acted in other films such as Eden lake, Summer Town and also the second part of This is england called This is england 86.
Shaun a 12 year-old schoolboy, gets into a fight at school after someone makes an offensive joke about his father, who died in the Falklands war. On his way home Shaun runs into a group of young skinheads led by Woody, who feels sympathy for Shaun and invites him to join the group. They accept Shaun as a member. After another skinhead called Combo comes out of prison and joins the group of friends, he starts to convince them about his nationalist ideas.
We liked this film a lot because it is quiet realistic and it reflects the situation of young skinheads in England. After watching the film and comparing the situation nowadays we could see that the skinhead subculture has changed.

In this project we had to choose an English song, in our case Career Opportunities by The Clash, we wrote the lyrics in English and then we translated it into Basque and Spanish. We uploaded the video to Dotsub and we worked on this page.
In our opinion this project was quite interesting because it was related to music. We worked very hard and we learned how to subtitle a video.
We chose this song because we think that the meaning of the song is true.
The Clash was a punk group that was founded in England. We could say that musically they are good but the movement they started was much more important than their music. The punk movement started more or less in 1976, a lot of young people noticed that the society that they lived in wasn't made for them so they wanted to change it. They started to wear different clothes and mohicans. They were antifascist, anti system, antireligion and anti anything that helped the capitalist system. Groups like Sex Pistols , The Clash and The Exploited gave strength to the punk movement. The singer of the group was Joe Strummer. When The Clash stopped making concerts he carried on his musical career by himself. The Clash has played in many festivals against fascism.
